Join us for a weekend in our private, peaceful sanctuary

connect, explore, wander, forage, feast,

create and just ‘be’.

(10 people minimum to run this program)

What you will gain

  • Calm in your body as we sooth your nervous system through sensory connection with nature - wandering, lying down, smelling, touching, listening. You will notice nature at a whole new level.
  • Peace, stillness, rest - actually stopping :) It will be so worth it.
  • Curiosity if you're up for a chat we will share what we are doing with conservation, food growing, weed and pest animal control, planning a house, creating opportunities to visit and BE at The Sanctuary
  • Connection we hear ALL the time about what a difference it makes to connect with people with similar values doing similar work. This will be a place for connecting conversations about working with people, in nature and with nature.
  • Nurture we LOVE to care for you at The Sanctuary. We'll create a safe, comfy, relaxed gathering where you can choose your level of interaction with others. We'll have opportunities for connection as well as solitude and reflection.
  • Nourish we are serious about food at The Sanctuary. We grow, harvest and process food. We choose to eat simply with minimal processing. We'll be sharing a delicious menu of home grown and home created food and drink.
  • The Sanctuary is a smoking and alcohol free venue.

What's on offer

  • Forest Bathing. Wandering for a gentle walk and exploring sensory nature connection to fully arrive in the nature, calm our nervous systems, clear our minds and connect with our body. We'll be meandering, touching, looking, listening, smelling and tasting nature.

  • Delicious meals simple, wholesome food that looks like the nature that it is. Probably including fruit from our orchard, eggs from our chooks, veggies from our garden and damper cooked on the fire.

  • Fire! we'll have an opportunity to gather around fire - as humans have done forever. Gather, share, absorb the sensory experience of fire.
  • Rest. You might choose to lie in a hammock, bean bag or recliner lounge by the river, under a tree or in your own private space. We'll deliver some afternoon tea while you sleep, rest, read or perhaps journal.
  • Indigenous connection Peramangk-Kaurna elder Ivan-Tiwu Copley will share his wisdom of connection with land and welcome us to this land, his land.
  • Reading  access Bronwyn's library of nature books - for nature based therapies, bird therapy, gardening, creativity in and with nature
  • Nature Journaling - Russell will lead an optional beginners exploration of nature journaling. You don't need to be an artist because it's about supporting you to notice more deeply, to nurture your intentional curiosity and explore your response to the prompts of;

    • I notice
    • I wonder
    • It reminds me of
  • Nothing is 'required' of you that doesn't align with you. This is a weekend to take time out and 'be' in this nature. For you.
  • The exact program is subject to change and will be developed in consultation with participants.

Who is this for?

This retreat is for you if you work with or support other people and you feel called to the calm of nature. Bronwyn is an occupational therapist (OT), and supports other OTs to work with nature in our work, but this weekend is not just for OTs. If you're an OT, bring your allied health friends. If you're a teacher you are SO welcome. If you are interested in the therapeutic benefit of nature and connection people with nature then you are very welcome.

We are consciously LGBTIQ+ and cultural diversity friendly and we are always trying to 'do better'.

The accessibility of The Sanctuary is limited for people with mobility limitations. As an occupational therapist I am committed to improving that, but it requires a longer term program and funding and we are not 'there' yet. If you want to chat about the ability for you to participate and feel comfortable here I am ALWAYS happy to do that.

We are proud that The Sanctuary is fully off-grid for power and water, fitting with our ethos of living lightly on this planet.  Our facilities reflect this and include the cleanest long drop toilet you've ever seen, and a hired porta-loo.

We also have the most AMAZING outdoor hot water shower. If you haven't experienced standing in steaming hot water under a sky full of stars, or in morning sunshine then you are in for a treat. Sometimes there are possums watching!

If you would like to discuss any access requirements, physical or otherwise, please contact me at [email protected]
