This will be an experience

like no other - with a small group of

values-aligned health professionals.

Capped at 8 participants.

(4 people minimum required to run this program)

What you will gain

NOTE - EVEN if you are not actively pursuing nature based programming, the process we follow and the experiences you will have with nature will 100% support your ability to clarify, create and connect with YOUR ideas for your OT work. I am an 'out of the box' OT thinker and there is NOTHING better that taking time out to think, create, brain storm with other OTs.

  • Confidence as we explore the evidence for the health and wellbeing benefits of nature contact and connection - the generic evidence and then really focus on evidence for YOUR client group. I will help you find the evidence you need!
  • Knowledge about the key nature theories for the pathways of change - HOW nature contributes to the outcomes we see. You'll be able to explain this from an evidence based perspective, and use the theory to build a solid nature based intervention/program
  • Reconnection and remembering of the core of occupational therapy. How and why nature is SO aligned with holistic occupational therapy. How our scope of practice is SO broad with many possibilities for ways of working. Fall in LOVE with OT again.
  • A solid methodology to create your nature based way of working - whether it's about weaving more nature into your current job or role, or creating something new. Informed by project management and program logic methodologies - simplified for a quick result.
  • A new way of talking about nature. New language, embracing reciprocity and partnership with nature as our co-therapist.
  • Indigenous perspectives from Ivan-Tiwu Copley OAM (former South Australian of the Year), a Peramangk-Kuarna elder about connection with Country as a key part of identity, health and wellbeing.
  • A plan, confidence and inspiration. The intent is that you will leave with a clear plan on next steps and actions to intentionally include nature in your professional work.
  • Peace, stillness, rest - actually stopping :) It will be so worth it. We will sit around a fire, as humans have gathered forever for connection.
  • Nurture we LOVE to care for you at The Sanctuary. We'll create a safe, comfy, relaxed gathering where there will be time for connection and ample time for solitude and reflection.
  • Nourish we are serious about food at The Sanctuary. We grow, harvest and process food. We choose to eat simply with minimal processing. We'll be sharing a delicious menu of home grown and home created food and drink.
  • The Sanctuary is a smoking and alcohol free venue.

What's on offer

  • The FULL cOnnecT with Nature online program and community. With no time limit for access. The program and community continues beyond THIS residential program, and scaffolds your new way of working for as long as you choose.

  • 4 full days access to Bronwyn, a full library of evidence and nature books, individual and group time to actually work on what YOU can offer in your work.
  • Lightening fast satellite wifi (Skylink) for evidence searching, printing.
  • Cozy indoor learning space - with fire and kitchen
  • Mentoring, professional conversations, true connection and reflective discussion about what you want for nature in YOUR life and work.
  • Full catering simple, wholesome food that looks like the nature that it is. Probably including fruit from our orchard, eggs from our chooks and veggies from our garden. We'll harvest daily and do our very best to accommodate dietary requirements and preferences.
  • Nature Journalling kit (see below) with bag handmade by Nana :)
  • Welcome and comfort kit - also handmade by Nana - still working on the details.

The NATURE! The Sanctuary is a private National Park, heritage protected bushland, with a river, productive orchard and peace, true peace. The opportunity to feel and experience the impact of nature immersion on your own nervous system will be SUCH a support for your creativity and belief.

Immersive experiences in nature (of your choice)

  • Forest Bathing. Wandering for a gentle walk and exploring sensory nature connection to fully arrive in the nature, calm our nervous systems, clear our minds and connect with our body. We'll be meandering, touching, looking, listening, smelling and tasting nature.

  • Fire! we will definitely be warming ourselves by the fire every day.
  • Yoga - beautiful restful yoga for your body, mind and spirit (with a guest facilitator, not Bronwyn :))
  • Nature Journaling - Russell will lead an optional beginners exploration of nature journaling. You don't need to be an artist because it's about supporting you to notice more deeply, to nurture your intentional curiosity and explore your response to the prompts of;

    • I notice
    • I wonder
    • It reminds me of
  • Gardening
  • Ephemeral nature art
  • Nature and wildlife conservation as a therapeutic intervention
  • Creative exploration of the Kawa (river) model at the Finniss River
  • Rest and relaxation - how about an hour or two in a bean bag or hammock with a blanket, hot water bottle and cup of tea delivered. This is our life, and you can join us :)

Nothing is 'required' of you that doesn't align with you.

*The exact content is subject to change and will be determined in consultation with attendees prior to the event. This ensures that the content is what most suits your needs.

Who is this for?

This residential version of the cOnnecT with nature program is for you if;

  • you are an occupational therapist curiously exploring authentic, aligned ways of working (especially, but not only if you are passionate about wanting more intentional nature connection in your work)
  • you're really not sure how to get started, or create or grow a program or service that is grounded in solid evidence and theory
  • you KNOW nature is good but something is holding you back from shouting it from the rooftops and embracing nature in the way you work
  • maybe you actually don't want to create your own business - lets work out what you CAN do where you are - aligning with the goals, funding systems and context for your clients
  • you are craving your OWN connection with nature and time to THINK and plan because it's just too hard to 'add' on to your everyday life.
  • you would benefit from 4 days of being able to pick Bronwyn's brain about ANYTHING to do with nature based ways of working - language, evidence, theory, outcome measures, program design and evaluation. There will be NOTHING held back in this program.

We are consciously LGBTIQ+ and cultural diversity friendly and we are always trying to do better.

The accessibility of The Sanctuary is limited for people with mobility limitations. As an occupational therapist I am committed to improving that, but it requires a longer term program and funding and we are not 'there' yet. If you want to chat about the ability for you to participate and feel comfortable here I am ALWAYS happy to do that.

We are proud that The Sanctuary is fully off-grid for power and water, fitting with our ethos of living lightly on this planet.  Our facilities reflect this and include the cleanest long drop toilet you've ever seen, and a hired porta-loo.

We also have the most AMAZING outdoor hot water shower. If you haven't experienced standing in steaming hot water under a sky full of stars, or in morning sunshine then you are in for a treat. Sometimes there are possums watching!

If you would like to discuss any access requirements, physical or otherwise, please contact me at [email protected]

We've found a website where caravan owners will deliver their vans to The Sanctuary for hire. You set up the hire and we do the logistics for the delivery and set up. We'll connect you to explore your options. This will be so fun - you'll have private (or shared if you like) space.
