How to make it happen in a way that feels good for you!

I’m so enjoying the challenges you set us each week. The amazing references you are sharing along with your own experience and knowledge…I am finding it thought provoking and I am beginning to feel a new type of me, combination of my OT training and those things in life I value and cherish creating a new way forward for my working life. It has made a change in my current role in which I feel more confident and knowledgeable in suggesting/recommending people get out of their homes every day into nature. This will be a life changing experience.’

Who is Bronwyn Paynter?
My mission is to enable health professionals to use an evidence-based approach to incorporate nature into their professional practice for the health and wellbeing of both people and the planet.
My passion is to inspire and support occupational therapists to incorporate nature into their professional practice, and to create a global connected community of NatureOTs.
I have worked as an occupational therapist in Australia since 1993, am a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs and hold a GraduateCertificate in Permaculture Design and Diplomas in Work Health Safety and Project Management.
BUT itās not the qualifications and certificates that bring me to this work ā it is my deep conviction, lived experience and āknowingā of the benefits of being in nature for our wellbeing. My experience in the last few years in intentionally learning about and experiencing nature connection in many different ways has transformed my life and personal wellbeing as well as my practice as an occupational therapist. I want to share this opportunity and potential with my profession.

I have a love of gardening and have grown food since my first little garden plot in the backyard as a pre-schooler where I was allowed to grow anything I wanted. On leaving home as a teenager I grew tomatoes in pots in a rented flat, and later improved the gardens of several rented homes with fruit trees, vegetable, flower and herb gardens. Living in Wagga Wagga, NSW in the late 1990s and 2000ās with my husband and two young children and purchasing a āquarter acre blockā in an old area of town provided the opportunity to start to explore permaculture and build a mandala inspired garden with chooks, fruit trees, flowers and veggies.
In 2018 we āstepped upā our commitment to nature conservation by purchasing 82 acres of heritage protected bushland near Mt Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. The opportunity to be with this land and connect with the rhythms of this place have been an honour and we look forward to a life time of caring for and sharing our Sanctuary.
My business 'Nature OT' integrates occupational therapy practice with the ethics and principles of permaculture, and Nature and Forest Therapy Guiding. I speak about nature for health and wellbeing and guide health professionals in how to use nature as a therapeutic modality.Ā Nature OT is about creating a place to thrive, grow, prosper and bring people and nature together to support our health and wellbeing as well as the health and wellbeing of the planet.
PartneringĀ with nature has so much potential for our own wellbeing as health professionals and in supporting our clients to achieve their occupational goals in a world that is increasingly disconnected from nature. I would love to connect.Ā
See you in nature.
